When you purchase CleanMachine, we collect your email address through our payment processor (Stripe). This email is your license identifier โ it's how you activate the app. We do not collect your name, address, or any other personal information beyond what Stripe collects on our behalf during the transaction.
When you activate your license, your email address is sent to our license server (a Cloudflare Worker) to verify your purchase. We store a record that a device has been authorized โ no device identifiers, no hardware fingerprints, no personal data beyond the fact that the email was verified.
When you visit cleanmachine.app, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may log standard server access data including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. This is standard web server infrastructure logging. We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or cookies for marketing or behavioral profiling.
What we do not collect:
We use your email address for exactly one purpose: to verify that a license purchase is associated with your device. Specifically:
We do not send marketing emails, newsletters, or promotional communications. The only emails you will receive from us are transactional: purchase confirmations (sent by Stripe), license verification codes, and replies to support requests you initiate.
CleanMachine operates entirely on your Mac. All scanning, analysis, and AI processing happens locally on your device. Specifically:
Smart Scan, Duplicate Finder, Malware Scanner, and all other scan features read files and directories on your Mac to identify junk, duplicates, or threats. This analysis happens in memory on your device and the results are displayed only to you. None of this data is transmitted to any server.
Machine AI runs a local language model (llama3.2 via Ollama) entirely on your Mac. Your scan results and any questions you ask the AI are processed locally. No data is sent to Anthropic, OpenAI, or any other AI service provider. The model files are stored in the app's Application Support directory on your Mac.
Network Monitor displays active network connections on your Mac. IP addresses of external connections are sent to ip-api.com (a free geolocation service) solely to display the country and organization associated with each connection. This is the same information that is already exposed to every server you connect to. No other data is included in these requests.
App Update Checks โ CleanMachine periodically checks our API for available updates. This request includes the current app version number only. It does not include your email, device identifier, or any personal information. You can disable update checks in Settings.
Stripe โ We use Stripe to process payments. When you purchase CleanMachine, your payment information is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
Cloudflare โ Our website and license API are hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare processes network traffic to deliver our services and may log standard access data. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Brevo โ We use Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) to send transactional emails, specifically one-time license verification codes. Your email address is passed to Brevo for this purpose. Brevo's privacy policy is available at brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.
ip-api.com โ Used by the Network Monitor feature to geolocate external IP addresses. Only IP addresses (not your personal information) are sent. This service is used on-demand when the Network Monitor is open and caches results per session.
We do not share your personal information with any other third parties. We do not sell your data. Ever.
We retain your email address and license record for as long as your license is active plus a reasonable period to handle support requests and refund claims. If you request deletion of your account and data, we will remove your email and associated license records from our systems within 30 days, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain records.
Stripe retains payment records according to their own retention policies, which we do not control. Payment records may be retained for legal and accounting purposes.
We take the security of your data seriously, particularly given that CleanMachine is a security-focused product. Our measures include:
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we implement commercially reasonable safeguards, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data:
Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (your email address and license status).
Deletion: You can request deletion of your data. We will remove your email and license record from our systems. Note that deleting your data will deactivate your license.
Correction: If your email address changes (e.g., you used the wrong address at checkout), contact us and we will update your license record.
Portability: We can provide your data in a machine-readable format on request.
Objection / Restriction: You can object to or request restriction of processing. Given that we only use your email for license verification, the practical effect of this is license deactivation.
California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request deletion.
EEA/UK residents (GDPR): Our lawful basis for processing your email address is contract performance โ it is necessary to verify your license. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

CleanMachine is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide notice through the app or via email to the address associated with your license.
Your continued use of CleanMachine after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
